Day of race registration will also be available.
Team Apparel

With the race season upon us this is a good time to get team apparel to represent Mountain View at competitions.  At a minimum I would like to have every athlete on our team own a 2016 t-shirt that they can wear to races - if money is an issue let me know and we will make sure you're covered.  The following items are available for purchase by athletes and parents:

Boys Brooks Grey 1/2 Zip Long Sleeve Shirts - $30 (Athletes Only - Currently no Small or Medium)
Girls Brooks Grey Hoody Long Sleeve Shirts - $30 (Athletes Only)
Brooks Red 1/2 Zip Long Sleeve Shirts - $40 (Parents)
Headsweats Trucker Hats - $25
2016 Team T-Shirts - $5 for athletes, $15 for parents.

If you are interested in purchasing any items please bring cash or a check made payable to 'Mountain View Cross Country' to practice this week.  I will have all team apparel with me at practice the entire week.

Pasta Feed

The pre-Mountain View XC Runoff team pasta feed will be at the Katz house at 5:30 pm on Thursday (practice is at 4:30 to accommodate the pasta feed).  Their address is 2927 NE Yellow Ribbon Drive.  Please bring something to share with the team:

Freshmen - Bread
Sophomores - Salad
Juniors - Drinks
Seniors - Desert

Team Uniforms

If you still need a uniform let me know and we will find a time after one of our practices this week to grab you one.  Please remember that uniforms are team property and that fines will be assessed for damaged or lost uniforms.  We have brand new jerseys and shorts on order that will be given out after our race in Seaside.  These are extremely expensive uniforms and it is your individual responsibility to take care of them.  When washing uniforms please do not place any items in a dryer.  All items should be hung to dry to extend their life.

Footzone Spike Night

Footzone has their final spike night on Sat, Sept 3rd.  On this day all high school athletes can get 20% off all shoes and apparel (All Day Long).  High School athletes are also eligible for a 10% discount throughout the year.

I previously mentioned Fleet Feet offers a free pair of spikes with the purchase of trainers for high school athletes - apparently this is only valid on certain dates and I haven't been made aware of when these are.  The Nike Outlet and Dicks Sporting goods are a couple other good options for reasonably priced running shoes.  If buying shoes is an issue for you let us know.  It is a priority for us that all team athletes have a quality pair of running shoes that are in good shape so we will help as much as possible.

Week 10 - 8/21 - 8/27

This week practices are transitioning to Mountain View.  We will be sticking with our normal time schedule until the start of school.  Please keep in mind that practices are mandatory and athletes may not race if they have an unexcused absence in the week leading up to a race.  If you have a valid excuse to miss a practice please make sure to notify a coach in advance.  Please be sure to hydrate ahead of and after practice.  We've had some hot days and as we increase intensity at practice its especially important that you are drinking water throughout the day

Breese Ranch Stampede

Our first race is Saturday 8/27 at Breese Ranch!  Breese Ranch is a strenuous course so we are limiting participation to injury-free athletes who have been attending practices regularly throughout the summer.  Looking through the roster, we feel the athletes below should race at Breese.  If your name is not on the list and you would like to race please check-in with me at practice or email back over the course of the next week and we can discuss adding you to the list.  All cleared athletes that are not racing are still welcome and encouraged to ride the bus with our team and cheer for your teammates in the race.  Come in running clothes so you can run jog the course with the team before the race.  We will leave from the bus loop at Mountain View at 7:30 am.  Be on-time! For more race info go to http://www.athletic.net/CrossCountry/Results/Meet.aspx?Meet=117727#/263.

Zac, Nate, Riley, Reid, Tyler, Jack, Sam, Nolan, Wyatt, Forrest, Vanessa, Anya, Noah K, William, Max, Travis, Madison, Chisel, Haiden M, Noah M, Quinn, Levi, Carmen, Elida, Braya, Nathan R, Mallory, Inteus, Michael S, Kelsey, Joel

All non-injured athletes will be racing the following week at the Mountain View XC Runoff.

XC Challenge

The Cougar XC Challenge is tomorrow, Saturday 8/20.  For those of you that are not familiar, this event is a team wilderness/scavenger hunt run in which athletes compete on teams as they race on an unmarked course to a mystery location.  This run is recommended only for athletes that have been attending practices regularly throughout the summer and physically able to run without walking for a minimum of 4 miles.

We will meet at RiverBend Park at 7:30 am to carpool to the dropoff location.

Starting this Monday, August 15th, the official fall sports season begins and practices are required.  If for any reason you are unable to attend a practice please let me know.  We will be maintaining our summer schedule for an additional week.  Starting 8/22 we will be moving all practices to Mountain View but keeping the same time schedule until school begins.  Once school starts practice will be at 3pm.  Athletes must be training on a regular basis starting Monday in order to compete at our first race at Breese Ranch on August 27th.  We are mandating this requirement in order to reduce injuries for those that are not prepared to compete.  All registered athletes will still be allowed to attend and watch the meet.

We have an optional run tomorrow morning (8/13) and will be meeting at RiverBend Park at 8:30 am and carpooling to Inn of the 7th Mountain to run on the river trail.  Parents are welcome to join for the run and help carpool athletes!  Athletes - Bring your swimsuit and we will stop by Inn of the 7th after our run to use the pool and hot tub.  If you prefer there is disc golf and mini golf also available.  We will return to RiverBend Park at 11 am.
