Final Weekly Email

Great racing today at the IMC District Championships!  Even though we didn't reach our goal of competing at state as a team, we are still proud of your performances today and throughout the season.  We've had a lot of fun and success throughout the year and look forward to setting new goals with you next season.

Congratulations to Inteus and Kelsey on their individual qualifications!  Any varsity athletes or those planning to attend the Boise race are encouraged to come train with Inteus and Kelsey next week.  We will be meeting at the XC tree at 3:00 (not 3:15) all next week (except for Monday due to our team meeting - see below).  We hope to see some of you cheering them on at State next Saturday.

On Monday we will have an important team meeting for all freshmen, sophomore and junior runners with the goal of running varsity at some point during their high school career.  We will be sharing about an exciting new program to encourage maintaining running fitness throughout the year.  We will meet in Bohnlein's classroom (E9) at 3 pm.

Here are a few announcements:

Saturday Trail Run (tomorrow 10/28)

We will be meeting tomorrow at 2pm at Drake Park and carpooling to Phil's Trailhead for a trail run.  This is specifically for Inteus and Kelsey but any District racers are welcome to join!  We should be back to Drake Park by 3:30.

Uniform Returns

Uniform turn-ins will be Monday (10/31) in Bohnlein's classroom (E9) from 2:45 - 3:00 (prior to our team meeting).  Please wash your uniform before returning.  Students who do not return their old and new uniform will be fined for each item not turned in.

End of Season Banquet

Our end of season banquet has been re-scheduled for Monday, November 7th at 6pm in Aspen Hall at Shevlin Park to accommodate a number of athletes attending the Nike Regional Meet in Boise, Idaho.  This is not a team-sponsored event, but our team captains are organizing a group and all team members are welcome to attend.  Talk to a captain for more information.

Expect the team banquet to last till about 9pm.  We will have food catered from Tate and Tate with both a meat and vegetarian option.  The team will cover the cost of all team athletes – athletes must RSVP for the team to pre-order and cover their meal cost.  We will check with athletes at practice to confirm attendance – please email me if you won’t be at practice.  Family members may attend for free, but if you wish to eat, meals are $11/person and must be paid in advance on Touchbase which is currently setup for payment.  The deadline to pre-order your meal is Monday, October 31st.

Week 19 - 10/23 - 10/29

Hey Team,

We have an exciting week ahead of us and a great opportunity to take both our boys and girls teams to the state meet on November 5th!  After all of your hard work this season you now have a chance to see if we can achieve the goals we set for ourselves back in August.  Take extra steps this week to prepare and ensure the best possible performance on Friday.  Do your homework early, get some extra sleep, eat a little more healthy food, cut out some of that junk food, avoid hot tubs, limit excessive standing, and avoid excessive exposure to sun, wind or cold temperatures.  Here are this week’s announcements:

District Meet

The IMC District Championship meet is this Friday 10/28 at Juniper Golf Course in Redmond.  The course will be exactly the same as the Juniper Preview.  All athletes (including those not racing) are encouraged to attend.  Buses will pickup athletes from the MV bus loop at 11:45 am.   Please be on-time!  Race times are:

Winter/Spring Sports

With cross country coming to an end shortly, we strongly encourage all athletes to participate in another sport during the winter and spring seasons to maintain fitness for next cross country season.

The Nordic Ski team is a popular option among our team and highly recommended by our coaching staff.  No experience is necessary and the program owns all necessary ski equipment to make it affordable for all families.  There is an information night scheduled for Wednesday, October 26th in the MVHS cafeteria.

Swimming is also great cross training for XC and the MVHS team is open to athletes of all ability levels.  There is an informational meeting on Thursday, October 27th at lunch in room A5.

We are also working on an exciting program to encourage maintaining running fitness throughout the year - more details to come!

Practice Schedule

Monday – Speed Workout (4-3-2) at Pine Nursery

Tuesday – Easy run to Stover Park with Strides

Wednesday - No Study Hall.  Meet at XC Tree immediately after school.  Track Workout (2 x 400, 300, 200)

Week 18 - 10/16 - 10/22

Another great day of racing yesterday Cougs!

Both our boys and girls had some excellent performances despite less than ideal conditions, pushing our boys ahead of Bend High in hypothetical results by 2 points and bringing our girls within 1 point.  We are in for an exciting District race!  Results from the George Fox XC Classic are available at:  http://www.athletic.net/CrossCountry/Results/Meet.aspx?Meet=114563#/263

Here are this week's announcements:

Central Oregon Relays

Mountain View is hosting its third race of the season on Wednesday, October 19th at Pine Nursery Park.  For those of you unfamiliar with this race it is a relay format race in which you can choose your own team (either male, female, or coed).  We will finalize teams at practice on Tuesday.  All teams start the race at 3pm.  Costumes are encouraged.

Fore more information on the meet go to: http://www.athletic.net/CrossCountry/Results/Meet.aspx?Meet=114908#/263

District Meet / Uniforms

We will be announcing those attending the District Meet, including those running varsity, at practice this week.  If you are not attending Districts we will have uniform turn-ins next Monday (10/24) at the XC tree from 2:45 - 3:15.  Please wash your uniform before returning.  Students who do not return their old and new uniform will be fined for each item not turned in.

End of Season Banquet

Our end of season banquet is scheduled for Friday, November 11th at 6pm in Aspen Hall at Shevlin Park (However, we are considering a change in date, due to a number of athletes that are interested in attending the Nike Cross Regionals in Boise on Saturday, November 12th.  Some of our team captains are trying to organize this, however, it is not a team event and there will be no coaches present - we are looking at a revised date for the banquet of Monday, November 7th to accommodate their attendance, but are still confirming if this change is possible).  All athletes and family members are encouraged to come and celebrate the end of our season!  The event does tend to be fairly long because we feel it is important to recognize every athlete - expect it to last till about 9pm.  We will have food catered from Tate and Tate with both a meat and vegetarian option.  The team will cover the cost of all team athletes - please let us know if you are not attending so that we don't order you a meal.  Family members may attend for free, but if you wish to eat, meals are $11/person and must be paid in advance on Touchbase which is currently setup for payment:

Week 14 - 9/18 - 9/24

Great job in Seaside this weekend Cougars.  We hope you had as much fun as we did!  In the large school division our girls finished 5th out of 17 teams and our boys finished 9th out of 19 teams.  On top of that we had many great individual performances.  For full meet results go to http://resultsdb.com/results/Seaside3CourseChallengeResults2106.pdf or http://www.athletic.net/CrossCountry/Results/Meet.aspx?Meet=116914#/263.

Here are the announcements for this week:

Individual Picture Retakes/Shevlin Trail Run

Due to some difficult lighting and the opportunity to take team photos with our new uniforms we are offering individual picture retakes on Monday.  We will be meeting at our usual practice start location to carpool to Shevlin Park.  We will take photos and then do a trail run at Shevlin.  After practice we will carpool back to Mountain View.  Expect practice to run a bit later than normal - we will be back to Mountain View no later than 6pm.  Don't forget to bring your new uniform!

New Uniforms/Uniform Returns

With our new uniforms handed out and mud pits behind us for this season we will be racing the remainder of the year in our new uniforms.  Please wash your old jersey and shorts/spandex (if you took them) and return these at practice this week.  The lost uniform fine is $20 for the old jerseys and $20 for the old shorts/spandex.  These will be assessed to your student account at the end of the season if a uniform is not returned.  The lost/damaged uniform fine for our new uniforms are $80 for boy jerseys, $65 for boy shorts, $55 for girl jerseys, and $40 for girl spandex.  Our coaching staff has been finding lost items after every practice and race all season long.  Please encourage your students to keep track of their belongings to avoid a fine.  I've also mentioned previously that we want uniforms to be washed after every race to remove mud before it can stain the fabric.  Please wash in cold water and hang to dry (no dryers).

Nike Pre-Nationals

This Saturday we will be traveling to Portland for the Nike Pre-Nationals Meet.  I've previously mentioned that this race was not on our original race schedule but was picked up due to a desire from many athletes on the team to attend.  Because it was a late addition to the schedule and our coaching staff feels it is important to allow the opportunity for a week off from racing during the season, attending this race is optional.  The following athletes have committed to attend:

Kyla, Kyanna, Preston, Serene, Jordan, Chaunze, Lauryn, Sydney, Carsen, Nolan, Noah M, Jayden, Madison, Drake, Forrest, Maddie, Emily, Evan, Chisel, William, Haiden, Nate, Tyler, Kendall, Vanessa, Mallory, Brooke, Kelsey, Mckenna, Anya, Rebekah, Erin, Ciara, Wyatt, Michael S, Jack, Travis, Sam, Tyler C, Inteus, Max, Reid, Zac, Jacob, Quinn, Grace, Elida

If your plans have changed let me know by the start of practice on Monday (I prefer an email today)!  Entries are due Monday and we are planning to take only one bus to the race so we need to know if numbers change.

End of Season Banquet

Mark your calendars!  Our end of the year awards banquet is scheduled for Friday, November 11th at 6 pm.  For those of you that haven't attended in the past, we recognize every athlete so plan on the event lasting a few hours.  We will be having food catered and the team will cover the cost of dinner for every athlete.  Family members can choose to pay to eat or just attend and not eat for free.  I will be sending out details on payment information in another weekly update email.

Nutrition for Female High School Athletes

Footzone is offering a free clinic specific to nutrition for female high school athletes led by Stephanie Howe, Ph.
