Great racing today at the IMC District Championships! Even though we
didn't reach our goal of competing at state as a team, we are still
proud of your performances today and throughout the season. We've had a
lot of fun and success throughout the year and look forward to setting
new goals with you next season.
Congratulations to Inteus and Kelsey on their individual qualifications! Any varsity athletes or those planning to attend the Boise race are encouraged to come train with Inteus and Kelsey next week. We will be meeting at the XC tree at 3:00 (not 3:15) all next week (except for Monday due to our team meeting - see below). We hope to see some of you cheering them on at State next Saturday.
On
Monday we will have an important team meeting for all freshmen,
sophomore and junior runners with the goal of running varsity at some
point during their high school career. We will be sharing about an exciting new program to encourage maintaining running fitness throughout the year. We will meet in Bohnlein's classroom (E9) at 3 pm.
Here are a few announcements:
Saturday Trail Run (tomorrow 10/28)
We will be meeting tomorrow at 2pm at Drake Park and carpooling to Phil's Trailhead for a trail run.
This is specifically for Inteus and Kelsey but any District racers are
welcome to join! We should be back to Drake Park by 3:30.
Uniform Returns
Uniform turn-ins will be Monday (10/31) in Bohnlein's classroom (E9) from 2:45 - 3:00 (prior to our team meeting).
Please wash your uniform before returning. Students who do not return
their old and new uniform will be fined for each item not turned in.
End of Season Banquet
Our
end of season banquet has been re-scheduled for Monday, November 7th at
6pm in Aspen Hall at Shevlin Park to accommodate a number of athletes
attending the Nike Regional Meet in Boise, Idaho. This is not a
team-sponsored event, but our team captains are organizing a group and
all team members are welcome to attend. Talk to a captain for more
information.
Expect the team banquet to last till about 9pm. We will have food
catered from Tate and Tate with both a meat and vegetarian option. The
team will cover the cost of all team athletes – athletes must RSVP for
the team to pre-order and cover their meal cost. We will check with
athletes at practice to confirm attendance – please email me if you
won’t be at practice. Family members may attend for free, but if you
wish to eat, meals are $11/person and must be paid in advance on
Touchbase which is currently setup for payment. The deadline to

Another great day of racing yesterday Cougs!
Both our boys and girls had some excellent performances despite less than ideal conditions, pushing our boys ahead of Bend High in hypothetical results by 2 points and bringing our girls within 1 point. We are in for an exciting District race! Results from the George Fox XC Classic are available at: http://www.athletic.net/CrossCountry/Results/Meet.aspx?Meet=114563#/263
Here are this week's announcements:

Mountain View is hosting its third race of the season on Wednesday, October 19th at Pine Nursery Park. All teams start the race at 3pm. Costumes are encouraged.

End of Season Banquet
Our end of season banquet is scheduled for Friday, November 11th at 6pm in Aspen Hall at Shevlin Park (However, we are considering a change in date, due to a number of athletes that are interested in attending the Nike Cross Regionals in Boise on Saturday, November 12th. Some of our team captains are trying to organize this, however, it is not a team event and there will be no coaches present - we are looking at a revised date for the banquet of Monday, November 7th to accommodate their attendance, but are still confirming if this change is possible). All athletes and family members are encouraged to come and celebrate the end of our season! The event does tend to be fairly long because we feel it is important to recognize every athlete - expect it to last till about 9pm. We will have food catered from Tate and Tate with both a meat and vegetarian option. The team will cover the cost of all team athletes - please let us know if you are not attending so that we don't order you a meal. Week 14 - 9/18 - 9/24
Great job in Seaside this weekend Cougars. We hope you had as much fun as we did! In the large school division our girls finished 5th out of 17 teams and our boys finished 9th out of 19 teams. On top of that we had many great individual performances. For full meet results go to http://resultsdb.com/results/Seaside3CourseChallengeResults2106.pdf or http://www.athletic.net/CrossCountry/Results/Meet.aspx?Meet=116914#/263.
Here are the announcements for this week:
Individual Picture Retakes/Shevlin Trail Run
Due to some difficult lighting and the opportunity to take team photos with our new uniforms we are offering individual picture retakes on Monday. We will be meeting at our usual practice start location to carpool to Shevlin Park. We will take photos and then do a trail run at Shevlin. After practice we will carpool back to Mountain View. Expect practice to run a bit later than normal - we will be back to Mountain View no later than 6pm. Don't forget to bring your new uniform!
New Uniforms/Uniform Returns
With our new uniforms handed out and mud pits behind us for this season we will be racing the remainder of the year in our new uniforms. Please wash your old jersey and shorts/spandex (if you took them) and return these at practice this week. The lost uniform fine is $20 for the old jerseys and $20 for the old shorts/spandex. These will be assessed to your student account at the end of the season if a uniform is not returned. The lost/damaged uniform fine for our new uniforms are $80 for boy jerseys, $65 for boy shorts, $55 for girl jerseys, and $40 for girl spandex. Our coaching staff has been finding lost items after every practice and race all season long. Please encourage your students to keep track of their belongings to avoid a fine. I've also mentioned previously that we want uniforms to be washed after every race to remove mud before it can stain the fabric. Please wash in cold water and hang to dry (no dryers).
Nike Pre-Nationals
This Saturday we will be traveling to Portland for the Nike Pre-Nationals Meet. I've previously mentioned that this race was not on our original race schedule but was picked up due to a desire from many athletes on the team to attend. Because it was a late addition to the schedule and our coaching staff feels it is important to allow the opportunity for a week off from racing during the season, attending this race is optional. The following athletes have committed to attend:
Kyla, Kyanna, Preston, Serene, Jordan, Chaunze, Lauryn, Sydney, Carsen, Nolan, Noah M, Jayden, Madison, Drake, Forrest, Maddie, Emily, Evan, Chisel, William, Haiden, Nate, Tyler, Kendall, Vanessa, Mallory, Brooke, Kelsey, Mckenna, Anya, Rebekah, Erin, Ciara, Wyatt, Michael S, Jack, Travis, Sam, Tyler C, Inteus, Max, Reid, Zac, Jacob, Quinn, Grace, Elida
If your plans have changed let me know by the start of practice on Monday (I prefer an email today)! Entries are due Monday and we are planning to take only one bus to the race so we need to know if numbers change.
End of Season Banquet
Mark your calendars! Our end of the year awards banquet is scheduled for Friday, November 11th at 6 pm. For those of you that haven't attended in the past, we recognize every athlete so plan on the event lasting a few hours. We will be having food catered and the team will cover the cost of dinner for every athlete. Family members can choose to pay to eat or just attend and not eat for free. I will be sending out details on payment information in another weekly update email.

Three Course Challenge - Seaside
This week we are headed to the coast for the legendary Three Course Challenge. If this is your first time joining us for our annual trip to Seaside, OR you are in for a treat!
We will be leaving on Friday morning after first period. No students that miss first period will be allowed to attend! Please also remember that no athletes with an unexcused absence this week will be allowed to attend. If you are not planning to attend, please let me know asap. We will be meeting at the bus loop at 9am on Friday to depart and are staying at the Shilo Inn East (Room assignments will be provided on Friday) in Seaside. The team will be covering the majority of this cost through fundraised money, but we need each athlete to contribute toward this cost. Please bring $10 cash or a check made payable to 'Mountain View Cross Country' to practice this week!
What to Bring:
- Lunch on Friday (or money)
- Money for Dinner on Friday, and Lunch and Dinner on Saturday (hotel will have breakfast on Saturday)
- Shoes that you don't mind getting dirty in the race (and an extra pair)
- Warm clothes as the coast can be much cooler than Central Oregon.
- Boys (bring white jersey and old racing shorts - new uniforms must not be worn at Seaside)
- Girls (bring $2-3 to practice on Monday as girls team will be making t-shirts to race in at Seaside)
For more information including directions and race times go to the meet page on Athletic.net at http://www.athletic.net/CrossCountry/Results/Meet.aspx?Meet=116914#/263
New Uniforms
Our new shorts and jerseys are the nicest team uniforms you can buy and cost $145 each. Take good care of these and avoid losing them. Athletes will be fined for any lost or damaged uniforms. Do not remove any tags or alter the uniforms in any way. Uniforms need to be washed after each meet in cold water, no bleach, and hung to dry - do not put these in a dryer. Also, we recommend that parents purchase their son's a pair of briefs that can be worn under their shorts and are not visible. Several athletes expressed that the shorts don't offer adequate support, plus this will help preserve the life of the shorts. We prefer that athletes don't wear boxer briefs or compression shorts under the team shorts, but at a minimum any such garments should be solid black. Finally, the new uniforms must not be worn at the Seaside meet next weekend. Wear the old team jersey and shorts to Seaside and we will turn these in the following week.

Footzone Spike Night
Footzone has their final spike night on Sat, Sept 3rd. On this day all high school athletes can get 20% off all shoes and apparel (All Day Long). High School athletes are also eligible for a 10% discount throughout the year.
I previously mentioned Fleet Feet offers a free pair of spikes with the purchase of trainers for high school athletes - apparently this is only valid on certain dates and I haven't been made aware of when these are. The Nike Outlet and Dicks Sporting goods are a couple other good options for reasonably priced running shoes. If buying shoes is an issue for you let us know. It is a priority for us that all team athletes have a quality pair of running shoes that are in good shape so we will help as much as possible.

Week 10 - 8/21 - 8/27
This week practices are transitioning to Mountain View. We will be sticking with our normal time schedule until the start of school. Please keep in mind that practices are mandatory and athletes may not race if they have an unexcused absence in the week leading up to a race. If you have a valid excuse to miss a practice please make sure to notify a coach in advance. Please be sure to hydrate ahead of and after practice. We've had some hot days and as we increase intensity at practice its especially important that you are drinking water throughout the day
Breese Ranch Stampede
Our first race is Saturday 8/27 at Breese Ranch! Breese Ranch is a strenuous course so we are limiting participation to injury-free athletes who have been attending practices regularly throughout the summer. Looking through the roster, we feel the athletes below should race at Breese. If your name is not on the list and you would like to race please check-in with me at practice or email back over the course of the next week and we can discuss adding you to the list. All cleared athletes that are not racing are still welcome and encouraged to ride the bus with our team and cheer for your teammates in the race. Come in running clothes so you can run jog the course with the team before the race. We will leave from the bus loop at Mountain View at 7:30 am. Be on-time! For more race info go to http://www.athletic.net/CrossCountry/Results/Meet.aspx?Meet=117727#/263.

We will meet at RiverBend Park at 7:30 am to carpool to the dropoff location.

Week 8 - 8/7 - 8/13
I hope you all had a fun time at Cultus this year and are excited and motivated as we near the start of our race season! There are some important announcements this week so please be sure to read through the entirety of this email.
Team Signups
Signups for cross country are now available online at https://www.bend.k12.or.us/mountainview/student-life/athletics. No athletes will be allowed to participate at practices starting August 15th without being cleared by the athletic office. Please get your registration complete as soon as possible as the athletic office works through registrations in order of being received. Due to the large number of athletes registering close to the 15th, it is possible that even if everything is turned in you won’t be able to participate until the athletic office has reviewed everything. Please signup now to avoid this! Clearance to participate is contingent on registration, pay to play fee, ASB fee, and an active physical on file.
Free Injury Clinic!
Rebound Physical Therapy has offered to host a FREE injury night for our team! If any athlete has an injury, aches or pains – especially after Cultus - please consider attending. The physical therapists will evaluate your injury and discuss recommended treatments to help us get you back running injury-free. The clinic will be held this Monday night, August 8th, from 6:30–8:30pm at the East Rebound clinic (1303 NE Cushing Dr #150). There will be multiple physical therapists there and they would like to schedule athletes for 30min. slots so you don’t have to wait. Please call or text Megan @ 541-815-4348 to sign-up for a time.
Physicals!
You are required to get a new physical every two years so most athletes get them Freshmen and Junior years. New athletes will also need a physical. The Center is holding free physicals for boys on August 10th at 5pm. Free physical dates for girls are now past.
Cultus Lost and Found
We have a number of items left over from Cultus that will be available for return at practice next week. You can also make arrangements to stop by our house to pick up items if you need them sooner.

For this next week there will be no coaches at practice but our team captains will be leading according to our normal schedule. Please keep in mind that our Cultus Camp starts August 3rd so time is running out to signup. Please see below if you would like to attend and haven't signed up yet. We also need parent drivers to help us carpool to Cultus. Please let me know if you are able to help drive to Cultus on Wed, Aug 3rd or back to Bend on Sat, Aug 6th.
